Hi everyone! I'm Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We've found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you'll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask where something is located. After watching this video, you’ll be able to ask for directions.
Now, let's take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Πού είναι το σουπερμάρκετ; (Pú íne to supermárket?)
Εκεί είναι. (Ekí íne.)
Once more with the English translation.
Πού είναι το σουπερμάρκετ; (Pú íne to supermárket?)
“Where is the supermarket?”
Εκεί είναι. (Ekí íne.)
“It's over there.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say "Where is [place]?"
The pattern is:
Πού είναι [place]; (Pú íne [place]?)
"Where is [place]?".
For example:
"Where is the supermarket?"
Πού είναι το σουπερμάρκετ;, Πού είναι το σουπερμάρκετ; (Pú íne to supermárket?, Pú íne to supermárket?)
Now, how do you answer this question?
Εκεί είναι. (Ekí íne.)
"It's over there."
Listen to it again:
Εκεί είναι., Εκεί είναι. (Ekí íne., Ekí íne.)
This Greek sentence translates as "There it is." But it means "It's over there."
