Hi Bibiana,

When the euro got into circulation for the first time in Greece (2001) the prices skyrocketed within a DAY!

A tyropita that costed 120 drachmas and that it should cost 35 euro cents (1 euro = 340.75 dr.), costed 1 whole euro right the next day. All shops just rounded the prices in a ridiculous manner so everything was overpriced, including coffee and bottles of mineral water.

Ever since, life has gotten more and more expensive, but lately because of the crisis, coffee stores I think have lowered their prices into more reasonable ones. Rents and real estate prices have gone down as well. I think what's expensive still is the super market goods and the electricity. The electricity bills are brutal. The taxes also keep going up and up.

Hi Bibiana,

You know, coffee used to be much more expensive like 10-15 years ago! Like 4-5 euros!
