INTRODUCTION
Jason:In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Greek learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.
GRAMMAR POINT
Jason:In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question ""Whose is this? "" In Greek this is
Chrissi:Ποιανού είναι αυτό;
Jason:The first word in the question is
Chrissi:Ποιανού
Jason:""meaning whose"" in English.
Chrissi:(Slow, by syllable) Ποιανού
Jason:Listen again and repeat.
Chrissi:Ποιανού
{Pause}
Jason:This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Chrissi:είναι
Jason:meaning is.
Chrissi:(Slow, by syllable) είναι
Jason:Now repeat.
Chrissi:είναι

Jason:Listen to the the first 2 words of the question and repeat.
Chrissi:Ποιανού είναι

Jason:Let's break it down from the beginning. The first word:
Chrissi:Eίναι
Jason:meaning is.
Chrissi:(Slow, by syllable) Eίναι
Jason:Now repeat
Chrissi:Eίναι

Jason:And after that
Chrissi:δικό μου
Jason:meaning mine.
Chrissi:(Slow, by syllable) δικό μου
Jason:Now repeat.

Jason:Listen to the speaker say, It's mine., and then repeat.
Chrissi:Είναι δικό μου

Jason:To use a different phrase, replace mine with yours.
Chrissi:δικό σου
Jason:yours
Chrissi:(slow) δικό σου (regular) δικό σου
Jason:Listen to the phrase again, this time with yours
Chrissi:Είναι δικό σου
Jason:It mostly stays the same. Simply replace mine. Say It's yours.

Jason:To expand on the pattern, replace yours with my friend's.
Chrissi:του φίλου μου
Jason:my friend's

Jason:Listen to the phrase again, this time with my friend's

Jason:It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the word for yours. Say It's my friend's.

Jason:It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the word for my friend's. Say It's my father's.

QUIZ
Jason:Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting Greece, and someone asks you who something belongs to. You want to say It's mine.. Respond to the question.
Chrissi:Ποιανού είναι αυτό; (five seconds) Είναι δικό μου
Jason:Now, you want to say it's It's yours. Respond to the question.
Chrissi:Ποιανού είναι αυτό; (five seconds) Είναι δικό σου
Jason:Now, you want to say it's It's my friend's.. . Answer the speaker's question.
Chrissi:Ποιανού είναι αυτό; (five seconds) Είναι του φίλου μου
Jason:Now, you want to say It's my father's.. Respond to the question.
Chrissi:Ποιανού είναι αυτό; (five seconds) Είναι του πατέρα μου
Jason:Now imagine that you find something, and you want to know who it belongs to. Ask the question
