John: Expressions Related to Flirting and Falling in Love

John: This is Must-Know Greek Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 16. In this lesson, you'll learn expressions related to flirting and falling in love.
John: Greeks are very passionate people, so it's only natural that there are many expressions about flirting and love in general. The popular term "Greek lover," used for men, exists for a reason!
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you'll be learning in this lesson are:
Chrissi: την πέφτω (tin péfto)
Chrissi: δαγκώνω τη λαμαρίνα (dagóno ti lamarína)
Chrissi: κάνω καμάκι (káno kamáki)
Chrissi: κάνω παιχνίδι (káno pehnídi)
John: Chrissi, what's our first expression?
Chrissi: την πέφτω (tin péfto)
John: literally meaning "to fall it." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to hit on someone, to flirt."
Chrissi: [SLOW] την πέφτω [NORMAL] την πέφτω

John: Use this slang expression when you or someone else is hitting on someone. Be careful when you use this expression, though. You shouldn't say this directly to the person you’re flirting with. They won't like it, as it sounds a bit derogatory.

John: Okay, what's the next expression?
Chrissi: δαγκώνω τη λαμαρίνα (dagóno ti lamarína)
John: This literally means "to bite the sheet metal." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to have a crush."
Chrissi: [SLOW] δαγκώνω τη λαμαρίνα [NORMAL] δαγκώνω τη λαμαρίνα

John: literally meaning "to harpoon." As a slang expression, it means "to hit on someone, to flirt."

John: Which literally means "to do the game." As a slang expression, it means "to play the field."
