John: Expressions for Arriving or Leaving a Place

John: This is Must-Know Greek Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 11. In this lesson, you'll learn expressions for arriving or leaving a place.
John: Young people that want to sound cool use these a lot.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you'll be learning in this lesson are:
Chrissi: σκάω μύτη (skáo míti)
Chrissi: την κάνω (tin káno)
Chrissi: την κοπανάω (tin kopanáo)
Chrissi: γίνομαι Λούης (yínome Lúis)
John: Chrissi, what's our first expression?
Chrissi: σκάω μύτη (skáo míti)
John: literally meaning "to burst nose." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to show up suddenly, to crop up."
Chrissi: [SLOW] σκάω μύτη [NORMAL] σκάω μύτη
John: Listeners, please repeat.

John: Use this slang expression when you or someone else shows up somewhere, usually unexpectedly.

John: This literally means "to do her." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to leave, to be off, to be out of here."

John: literally meaning "to hit her." As a slang expression, it means "to leave secretly, to disappear, to be out of here."

John: Use this slang expression to announce that you’re leaving, usually to avoid a boring or unpleasant situation.

John: Okay, what's the last expression?
Chrissi: γίνομαι Λούης (yínome Lúis)
John: Which literally means "to become Lοuis” — a reference to Spyros Louis, a Greek water-carrier who won the first modern-day Olympic marathon at the 1896 Summer Olympics held in Athens. When this is used as a slang expression, it means "to leave quickly, to disappear, to be gone."
Chrissi: [SLOW] γίνομαι Λούης [NORMAL] γίνομαι Λούης

John: Use this slang expression when you or someone leaves a place really quickly, almost as if running away from something or trying to escape.
