Lesson Transcript

Let's look at the dialogue.
Imagine two men who are sitting next to each other on a plane and start talking.
Let's see how this dialogue goes.
Είστε φοιτητής;
(íste fititís?)
Are you a student?
Όχι, δεν είμαι φοιτητής. Είμαι επενδυτής.
(Óhi, den íme fititís. íme ependitís.)
No, I'm not a student. I'm an investor.
As you might have noticed, there are two different sentence patterns here.
One for stating what you are and another for what you are not.
Let's focus on how to express what you do.
Είμαι [OCCUPATION].
(Íme [OCCUPATION].)
I’m a(n) [OCCUPATION].
Now, Let's look at some other examples.
Είμαι δάσκαλος.
(Íme dáskalos.)
I'm a teacher.
Όχι, δεν είμαι μηχανικός.
(Óhi, den íme mihanikós.)
No, I'm not an engineer.
Είμαι γιατρός.
(Íme yatrós.)
I'm a doctor.
