Gabriella: Hi everyone, I’m Gabriella.

Gabriella: And welcome to Culture Class: Essential Greek Vocabulary, Lesson 21! In this lesson you'll learn 5 essential words related to Transportation and around town. Gabriella: Cheap and convenient, the city bus lines can take you almost everywhere. In Greece there is also an excellent long-distance bus service called "KTEL" with comfortable seats and room for luggage underneath the bus and in racks inside.

Gabriella: Taxi cars in Athens are yellow with an illuminated "TAXI" sign on top. You can stop a cab by simply raising your hand or by going to taxi stands called "piatsa," which are located everywhere in Athens.

Gabriella: Greek ferries are the primary means of transporting passengers, goods, and even cars to and from the islands. The trip is an experience to be savored, almost like a cruise sometimes.

Gabriella: In the summer we will travel to the islands by ferry boat.

Gabriella: Greece can be explored by train easily. The Greek railway company is TRENOSÉ and covers most tourist destinations. There are overnight trains connecting Athens and Thessaloníki and international trains connecting Thessaloniki with Belgrade, Sofia, Budapest, Ljubljana and Istanbul.
