Welcome to Conversational Phrases!

We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.

In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to comment on a joke. After watching this video, you’ll be able to compliment or criticize anyone on their sense of humor.

Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!

Listen to the dialogue.

Γιατί το βιβλίο μαθηματικών είναι τόσο στεναχωρημένο; Επειδή έχει τόσα πολλά προβλήματα. (Yatí to vivlío mathimatikón íne tóso stenahoriméno? Epidí éhi tósa polá provlímata.)

Χαχα, είσαι τόσο αστείος! (Haha, íse tóso astíos!)

“Haha, you're so funny!”

First of all, let’s listen to the joke again “Why is the math book sad? Because it has so many problems.”

Now, how do you react to a joke? First, you’ll need to learn how to say “haha” . That’s χαχα, χαχα (haha, haha)

Then, you’ll need to learn how to say “You're so [adjective].” The pattern is:

Είσαι τόσο [adjective]. (Íse tóso [adjective].)

“You're so [adjective].”

For example:

“Haha, you're so funny!”

Χαχα, είσαι τόσο αστείος!, Χαχα, είσαι τόσο αστείος! (Haha, íse tóso astíos!, Haha, íse tóso astíos!)
