Lesson Transcript

Today, we'll introduce parting greetings.
As we learned in the previous lesson, Γεια σου (Ya su) can mean both "hello" and "goodbye." However, this is not the only way of saying goodbye in Greek! A parting expression that we can use for all occasions is Αντίο (Andío), which literally means "goodbye."
Αντίο (Andío)
Αντίο (Andío)
Let's break it down by syllable: A-ndi-o.
Now let's hear it again, Αντίο (Andío).
Let's look at another expression. The phrase Γεια σου (Ya su) as seen in the previous lesson also means "goodbye."
Let's say it one more time slowly now, Γεια σου (Ya su).

As we learned in the last lesson, when parting or saying goodbye at night, the greeting Καλό βράδυ (Kaló vrádi) is the appropriate choice.
Let's break it down by syllable: Ka-lo vra-di.
Now let's hear it again, Καλό βράδυ (Kaló vrádi)
Καλό βράδυ (Kaló vrádi)
Let's look at the components. The first word, καλό (kaló), means "good." Let's break down this word and hear it one more time, Ka-lo.
Βράδυ (Vrádi), which in Greek is "evening or night" follows Καλό (Kaló).

There are also several phrases for saying "Talk to you later." A more casual way of saying "Talk to you later" or "Talk to you soon" in Greek is Τα λέμε (Ta léme), which literally means "We talk." Let's break it down by syllable: Ta le-me.
Now let's hear it one more time, Τα λέμε (Ta léme)
Okay, to close out today's lesson, we'd like for you to practice what you've just learned. I'll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you're responsible for shouting it out loud. You'll have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so Καλή τύχη (kalí týchi), which means "good luck!" in Greek.
"Goodbye" - Αντίο (Andío)
"Good evening" - Καλό βράδυ (Kaló vrádi)
"See you soon" - Τα λέμε (Ta léme)
"See you later" - Τα λέμε (Ta léme)
All right, that's going to do it for today!
